Gators‘ 2018 spring game scheduled for 3 p.m. April 14

New coach Dan Mullen will return the spring game to its traditional Saturday afternoon spot after two years under the lights in the Swamp.

The Orange and Blue Debut is set for 3 p.m. April 14 and will be the centerpiece of a weekend featuring six other UF sports also competing on campus.

"What an exciting weekend this will be for Gator Nation," Mullen said in a statement. "I can‘t wait for our staff and players to be back home in The Swamp. Gators, we need to you to come out and support our top-ranked baseball, softball, tennis and track-and-field teams that weekend while also packing Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on that Saturday."

In 2016, former coach Jim McElwain moved the game to Friday night to escape the midday heat of early spring in Gainesville and afford better television exposure.

UF said Mullen made the decision to move the game back to Saturday afternoon to allow “fans to experience a real Gators game day.”

Whenever the game is played all eyes will be on the Gators’ quarterback race.

Incoming freshman Emory Jones enrolled last week in classes and is expected to compete with redshirt sophomore Feleipe Franks, among others, for the chance to take the first snap Sept. 1 in the Swamp against Charleston Southern.

The Gators‘ 83-66 win at Texas A&M was UF‘s most complete performance since November and maybe its most important win of the season. The Gators hit 17 3-pointers and defended well to hand the 11th-ranked Aggies a bad loss on their homecourt.
