Holiday Market in Royal Oak, known for their wide array of already cooked foods, from full meals to soups to salads and in-house smoked barbecue, is now offering their version of meal kit. And there‘s no subscription commitment required.

Featuring recipes developed by the chefs at Holiday Market, each kit contains a main protein dish and is put together and prepped with ingredients portioned out. That means all of the work — slicing, dicing, measuring — is already done and all that is left is to follow instructions to cook it. On their flyers, Holiday Market touts the meals as “gourmet dinners prepped by us, cooked by you.”

After a limited test run for several months at Holiday Market Select in Birmingham, three meals will be offered. Each meal serves two, but you can increase that if you like.

The menu will have three options and will change weekly, according Tom Violante Jr. of the family owned market. Kicking off the offering this week is a pork loin, a salmon option and a gnocchi dish.

The roast pork loin is marinated and paired with Brussels Sprouts, fingerling potatoes in a sweet vermouth sauce for $20. Farroe Island salmon is highlight for the fish entree and it‘s paired with quinoa, squash, bell pepper, tomato caper relish and fresh basil for $27.  For a non-meat offering, there is the mushroom gnocchi with shallots, garlic and porcini cream sauce, finished topped with a sprinkling of gorgonzola cheese for $20.

“What makes ours unique is our chefs created the meals and it’s our proteins,” Violante says. “So it’s our meat, our seafood, it’s fresh and never been frozen.”

Violante says the meal kits will be sold at both locations and launched this week. They are geared toward “people who want to have a home prepared meal and simply don’t have time to grocery shop for all the different items and spices” needed.

“They just need somebody to put it all together for them and make it simple,” he says.
While they make the kits fresh daily, Violante says it’s best to pre-order, and that one day’s notice is all that’s needed.

“No one can provide a better fresher meal kit than what we provide, with the quality ingredients we provide,” Violante says.

And if you want wine with your meal, all the meals offer a suggested wine pairing. If you order the wine with the kit, they’ll take $1 off.
