How severe is the impending winter storm? Weatherman Jim Cantore is coming to Indy

Just look at how the temperatures will soon drop in Indiana and the rest of the Midwest:

Along with this temperature crash will come a hazardous mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and nationally known Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore.

Cantore tweeted to his 1.12 million Twitter followers on Thursday afternoon that he was “shuffling off to IND” from Minnesota as the dangerous wintry mix, dubbed Winter Storm Hunter, creeps toward the city.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis by 1 a.m. Friday and last until about 10 p.m. Freezing rain and sleet is likely to blanket roads early Friday and gradually change to snow throughout the day. The NWS predicts a hazardous morning commute, and possibly a dangerous evening commute. 

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb also tweeted Thursday evening that a full call-out of the 1,092 snow plows in the Indiana Department of Transportation‘s fleet is scheduled in anticipation of the treacherous road conditions.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett held a press conference Thursday to . 

“We are hoping for the best, but we want everyone to be prepared for the worst,” Hogsett said. 

Motorists should plan extra time for their Friday-morning commute and again for the evening commute, as snow is expected to continue falling throughout the day.
