Man found guilty of kidnapping, sexually assaulting woman at gunpoint

A Sacramento County Superior Court jury found a 23-year-old man guilty of abducting a woman, stealing her car and raping her while her granddaughter was nearby in a car seat.

Eddie Ray Jones Jr. was convicted on Thursday of two counts of kidnapping during a carjacking, two counts of robbery and one count of oral copulation by force or fear with kidnapping and use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. He faces a maximum sentence of 69 years to life in prison at his Feb. 8 sentencing.

Jones was sitting inside a restaurant on Mack Road on Sept. 10, 2016, when his victim and her 2-year-old granddaughter entered and ordered food to go, according to a news release from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. He followed the woman to her car and told her he had a gun in his coat pocket, then climbed into the vehicle and ordered her to drive.

The victim drove Jones around for the next hour while he smoked drugs before he pulled out a gun, switched seats with the woman and drove to a secluded area he sexually assaulted her. Jones, who also went by “Lil Loco,” then stole money from the victim’s purse, dropped her and her granddaughter off on the side of the road and drove off in her vehicle.

He was arrested later that month after leading police on an erratic high-speed chase and attempting to flee on foot, for which he faces two outstanding felony charges of recklessly evading a police officer. He also awaits judgment on a burglary charge, for which he was out on bail when he abducted the woman and her granddaughter.

The victim described Jones’ tattoos to authorities and picked him out of a photo lineup, according to the D.A.’s release.

Jones has been found guilty of false imprisonment, hit-and-run, DUI, driving without a valid license, resisting arrest and possession of a switchblade since 2012, according to Sacramento County Superior Court records.
