Tickets to Michelle Obama‘s Vancouver visit sold out in pre-sale

Michelle Obama is coming to Vancouver but the public won’t get to hear her talk.

That’s because tickets for the Feb. 15 event at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre were sold out during the exclusive pre-sale for Greater Vancouver Board of Trade members before tickets went on sale to the public.

“We have never experienced this level of interest in an event,” said Iain Black, president and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.

“While pleased that our website did not crash, it did slow down temporarily shortly after Member sales opened this morning, as it experienced over one hundred and fifty times the normal traffic.”

Tickets were supposed to be on sale from Jan. 10 to 17, before the public got a chance to buy tickets on Jan. 18.

Obama is the former U.S. first lady, wife of former president Barack Obama. While her husband was in office, Obama also led several initiatives including the Let’s Move! campaign, which was geared toward physical fitness and tackling the issue of childhood obesity.

“Former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is truly one of the most inspirational public figures of our time, and on behalf of the Members of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, we are exceptionally excited to welcome her to our stage,” said Black.
